HCPC Registered Psychologist MBPsS
Marianne is a holistic psychotherapist who believes that a deep understanding of the self, our sense of identity, motivations and emotions are indispensable to becoming a full-rounded person, have fulfilled relationships and a grounded standing in the world. To approach this, her therapeutic practice unfolds around philosophy of mind, psycho-phenomenology, existential and systemic therapy. Pulling the appropriate element from all of these approaches, psycho-phenomenology especially focuses on the experience of subjective emotional states, bringing them to awareness and clarity, and to gain insights on what these might tell us about ourselves.
Existential approaches (e.g. logotherapy) are especially relevant in our time where the meaning of things we are doing at work or around our loved ones can easily get obscured, creating distress and misunderstandings. Importantly, Marianne acknowledged that a lot of psychological suffering does not arise in the isolated individual, but in a context and interconnected system with others, is often rooted in a person’s development and can include the violation of a person’s own perceptions of right and wrong in the world, it thus also has a moral component. Her person-centered, plural approach is particularly suited to address: moral dilemma evolving in an interpersonal context, loss of a loved one, loss of employment or life ambitions, finding motivation, contentedness and self-esteem, sexuality, sexual identity. Marianne has plenty of experience working in clinical and therapeutic settings in Germany and abroad. She has worked with diverse client groups such as individuals experiencing depression, mood disorders and anxiety. She is LGBTQ* and gender-queer friendly and also enjoys working with psychosis, trauma and autism spectrum. Marianne is highly empathetic, non- judgmental, relatable and truly motivated to fully understand the client and their given situation. Marianne has a MA in clinical psychology from Columbia University and is currently doing a DPhil in Experimental psychology at Oxford University. She can offer therapy in English, German and Mandarin.
